Kayakers

Driving home from the north, I saw two kayakers standing near their car. They were standing in a parking lot. One held a boat and the other a paddle, but from the highway I couldn't tell if they were coming or going. So, I decided to pull off and double back at the next exit. Luckily, the two friends were just arriving and putting in at a spot called The Basin. It's a place I know like the back of my hand. As kids, we'd go swimming at one particular spot in the endless networks of pools and waterfalls. The kayakers wanted to put in and 'run' The Basin itself, which is a waterfall that shoots horizontally to an adjacent wall and into a pool below, but due to a fallen tree they had to abandon the plan and head south down the Pemigewasset River. I followed a ways via the road, then headed home.

I justify my life as interesting when I think it is really just routine.
