Bike Train

Every year, Bike Week unfolds at Weirs Beach in Laconia, New Hampshire. Around the state, roads are packed with motorcyclists from around the country, and even around the world. Having photographed the last two years by wandering about, I didn't want to approach it the same aimless way. Shooting details, focusing on a color, or people with mustaches, or any other surface-level, obvious approach which often becomes a fail-safe more than anything else. While researching a little, I came across this train that shuttles bikers and visitors from a parking lot along Lake Winnipesaukee, and in to the heart of Bike Week. While it wasn't direct and typical coverage of this annual event, my hope was to find something related, yet lesser known. I only had a few hours on Thursday to photograph, so who knows how the environment changed, especially over the course of the weekend as things picked up Friday and Saturday nights. My initial thought was that the train would be packed and loud. What I found was that the 20 minute ride along the lake provided these 'weathered' bikers tranquility before the madness of Weirs.
