I'm not the biggest fan of photography. I mean, I love photojournalism, but I'm not really inspired to bring my camera wherever I go and photograph everything I'm doing. If I weren't working as a photojournalist the only other photo-related field I would want to pursue and learn would be surf photography. I love the beach, and ok, maybe documenting stuff with a camera...ok, I guess I love photography. Going to school in the midwest was torture. I loved it, but still, torture because a river was the closest thing to a beach. I need the beach. Driving 45 minutes to an hour for the beach each day is nothing. In fact, I may go tomorrow.
So, with a few storms brewing off the coast and Hurricane Earl causing a stir, I spent a lot of time last week at the beach surfing, and one day, taking photos. I've got this underwater film camera I've grown fond of once the photos are turned black and white. Has this feel that I dig and I want to utilize in a personal project about surfing. There are no controls in the camera, just point and shoot. Always being in control, or attempting to be technically, it's nice to just throw it all out the window. I was lucky that the 800 ISO roll of film that expired 5 years ago caught a few frames for the start of this little sumthin.
