Snowboarding round 1

We're working on a story about a local *cough* mountain *cough* for a business section the newspaper is putting out next week. It is actually a pretty cool place for what it is, a 200 foot hill in mid-Michigan. But no complaints!! Friendly people, cool vibe, cool staff of ski patrol and only 20 minutes away.

Detroit Auto Industry

January 11 I headed to Detroit on assignment for The Washington Times to photograph the North American International Auto Show. After reading part of the article by Andrea Billups found here I tried to show a little more than just the auto show. It didn't dawn on me how huge this industry is to not only Detroit, but to the rest of the country, until I was down there talking with some of the Union Auto Workers rallying in front of the auto show and the the Mayor of Warren. One burned out house after another, driving through Detroit was a sad experience. There are countless stories to be told, but this is such a huge all-encompassing issue, where do you even begin? Thinking about it, I kind of wanted to get out of my car, sit on the curb and just stare at a puddle. Feeling of helplessness for sure.

Circus

The Shrine Circus hit Saginaw today with their first show, so I headed there Wednesday night to shoot a little while people were setting up before the whole thing got going.

DrivetoDetroittomorrowanddoastoryontheeconomyandtheautoindustryin24hours...GO!

Ok, maybe it's not quite like that, but it sure feels like it after receiving word from the Washington Times Friday night to head to Detroit on Sunday with my mind racing in 18 different directions and approaches to take and time ticking away. Just a few I liked from today's auto show and protest.
