Relay For Life

I started photographing Darlene at her home while she was going through some paper work and organizing donation's for Saturday's Relay For Life event. We got to talking and a little later she asked if I would like to go with her when she puts flowers on her daughter's grave.

After working at home to prepare for Saturday's Relay For Life event, Darlene Cyr visited her daughter Morgan's grave Wednesday afternoon to plant flowers and do maintenance. Morgan was twenty-three when she passed away on January 18, 2008 from Hodgkins lymphoma. Cyr has been working everyday since February to raise money and donated items for this year's Relay For Life. Beginning in February, she spent what she estimates as 90 hours hand-writing 200 letters sending them to various businesses for donations. "Every night I had my telephone book out," she said, as she went through checking off who she had written. "I just wish we wouldn't have to do this next year. That someone finds a cure," she said. The goal for her team is to raise $8000 this year to be used for cancer research. Cyr says she heads to the grave at least once a week, usually in the evening as the sun sets.
