M-46

After driving down Michigan's Highway 46 while listening to NPR's "This American Life," I decided I wanted to return to a stretch of the road about 30-45 minutes from Midland and hang out, photographing daily life. I've thought about shooting medium format for this project, just to take a break from the fast paced digital action-jackson and really REALLY take my time composing, framing and thinking about every shot. Friday was my first trip to the stretch and was extremely excited when I saw everyone out enjoying the day, people waving to people, and meeting some really friendly people that I came across. I drove past this antique shop and noticed a group of people sitting out front, so I turned around and went to introduce myself. After spending some time shooting the shit, I told them I'd be back over the next couple weeks. "Friday's our bull [shitting] session. It's like our church," the owner of the shop said. So,if nothing is scheduled on Fridays around 1 pm, I'll be shooting the shit with these guys. A horse belonging to one of the residents along M-46 is due sometime in May, so I'm waiting for him to call when it gets close.

Hey I know that road. I grew up down a ways in Alma, which sits on 46 just south of Mt. Pleasant. I like the feature hunting posts of late. Inspires me to the pull over more often...
