Fears and reaction

So, I went to a skydiving club today to hang out and photograph. I was suited up in a parachute, but had to stay in the plane because I had never jumped before. I'm freaked of heights, sort of, so it was fun as hell. Once they leave the plane, they're gone in a split second. From my position, I had 3 seconds and that's it. So since I was only able to go on the last jump of the day, I missed the shots of them in mid-air. I'll be going back, but maybe to take lessons rather than shoot. I was only able to go

Where to go?

Ok, so I have a break from march 30 to April 9 and I want to go somewhere but not spend too much money. I'm looking for suggestions. I am debating between Ireland and Serbia, but am open to any suggestions. I'm looking for a cool place to have fun and mainly photograph.

Cemetery Garden

Everything seems to just look and feel better in black and white. This is a story I did for a class assignment where we work with a reporter to find a story and work on synergy and team work. It's great to learn something over because it brings to light what may have been forgotten. This woman is the only woman who works at this hill-top cemetery in Århus. She has worked there 11 years and loves to work outside. Having an apartment in the city there are no yards, so she calls the cemetery her garden. Her sister passed away a few years ago and she visits her grave each day during work.

Jørgen Danielsen

Long story...but after being rejected by a ton of old farmers who couldn't speak English, and I can't speak Danish, I found this guy gathering firewood. I called a Danish friend and had him translate, over the phone, to the guy and let him know that I'd like to follow him around for the rest of the day. But after about an hour-and-a-half, I was given the boot. It was tough and a quiet time shooting and the Danish people are quite reserved, so it was impossible to break the ice. This was an assignment for the class with Lars Bech. We had a day to shoot and find something and I wanted to get out of the city, so I went to this really small town.

Lars Bech Day_2

This is from an assignment from Lars Bech during a week long workshop/class. All the photos were shot using my point and shoot Canon Powershot. I just wanted to try something new and see if I could work with that camera and just hang out with the people instead of being "just a photographer." I'm happy with the results.

Problem uploading images

Not too sure why, but I can't post any more images...check back in a day or two for new stuff. IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM?

Lars Bech Day 2

Today we reviewed yesterday's assignment, went to the Åros museum to see Paul McCarthy's exhibit...which is crazy as hell...surreal, weird, and everything you attempt to avoid before falling asleep, and cool. Our assignment for tomorrow is a portrait. No specifics, just a simple portrait. So I had a bunch of different ideas, but everything closes around 5-6 PM so I ended up walking around the city. I came across this kid playing football (soccer) in a courtyard near these bricks and did a few quick shots. Doesn't say much, a kid and his ball. Cool light, but I like it for what it is.

Look Ma' I'm on TV

This is cool! My friend sent me a link to News that was put onto YouTube.

Scroll through to where the program timer changes immediately to 18:01. Then watch for the next like 3-4 minutes. As the camera guy walks up behind the Politi (police) vans, you'll see me with a black jacket, grey hood and blue/black pants photographing. At that time, I took this picture which you will recognize the guy from the video struggling with cops. If you keep watching, I will pass infront of the camera and then go to take a picture looking the other way. Pretty cool! Movie star tull-meister.

POYi Award

So, I just received word that me and other staff editors from two semesters ago placed 3rd for overall Picture Editing Portfolio in the under 100,000 circulation category. Pretty neat! I was on a staff of about 10 other photo editors or so who share the award. check out www.poyi.org for more info.

Stress Day

Last Wednesday we were given 3 assignments as soon as we got to class at 9 AM and they had a 6 PM deadline. Right away, we left school to get busy. Each of us had to cover a job fair at a local hotel, photograph in a gym center, and make a portrait of a local artist. Each person had 20 minutes to photograph an artist they were given. I went to a woman named Jane who did ceramics, but only had about 10-15 minutes before the next person showed up because the person before me needed more time. The gym assignment was cancelled but I decided to go and shoot something anyways. The job fair was a snore, as they always are, but it was challenging and interesting trying to get something.

Portrait Series

So after arriving back from a week of craziness, I needed to relax a little and went to a local cemetery for an assignment. The assignment was to make a series of 5 portraits of 5 different people all having something related or a theme. My theme was "People who go to a cemetery to walk, relax, run, bike, whatever." People actually hang out here and it feels more of a park than a cemetery.

Riot

So I left Aarhus last Thursday morning with some kids I've been hanging out with and photographing. That's where the story from below came from. We took a train to Copenhagen where they joined other activists and teens to protest the eviction of the Youth House that began around 7 AM that morning. Police landed on the roof with helicopters and entered from above because it would be impossible had they decided to enter from the street. The residents left in the house barricaded themselves in and were prepared with rocks, molotov cocktails and other weapons to defend themselves and the house from police. In the following days, there was both violent and peaceful protests. Friday night was probably the worst, but it's supposed to be bad again tonight. I am heading out with a friend whose sister has an apartment here. One little thing to add, I think I'm addicted to tear gas. Here are a few pics. Most of the interesting stuff took place at night.
