Steelers training camp

Went to the Steelers training camp in Latrobe, Pa. It's about 3 hours from Harrisburg. It was a story about the fans and not for sports so I didn't worry about the training itself, even though I did shoot it. Got yelled at by some dude...I think it was the AP photographer, because I was in a spot he wasn't. I sat up on a hill and tried to go places that the other photographers weren't. Then I worked my way up to a main area where I was told I could be. He saw me as I was walking down and said, "You just love breaking the rules don't you," in this asshole tone. I said, "I was allowed to be up there, a woman opened the gate for me and let me in." SO, if he were in that spot he wouldn't complain. And even if I knew I wasn't supposed to be there...which I didn't...if someone in charge is letting me stay, I'm going to stay. Wouldn't you? That's our job right? to get in spots where others are not. And me photographing from the spots I did wasn't threatening any other photographer or their right to photograph the training camp.

Self Assigned

Met up with some climbers on my day off and photographed a little. I got there pretty late cuz I was doing other stuff and they only hung around for like 30 minutes. Going back to the climbing gym this week and then hopefully out again next weekend to get some nice stuff. It's tons of fun...too bad I'm leaving in about a week to go back to school. But I can't wait.

Climbing

Starting to work on a story about a barn that has been turned into this huge climbing place. It's not new and has been around for a while, but it doesn't seem like the paper has done a story on the place. I think it's the biggeest climbing gym on the east coast. People are real chill and it's a cool place to shoot. Visually I think it will be great, but I don't know really how much content there is besides these dudes climb and hang out there all the time. This was my first day there so I just hung out with the people and didn't shoot much.

Krav Maga

Stuff I shot tonight and wanted to post before going home. Not final edit, just what I liked at quick first glance. Not really toned either. This is going with a story comparing two forms of karate...this, called Krav Maga and another more passive form with a name I can't remember. Haven't shot the second form yet so I'll update final pics when I do.

Seniors Tubing

This is hands down the best assignment so far this summer. It was awesome, the people were awesome, and I think I got some decent photographs. Here's a few. Basically a retirement home took a tubing trip on a creek.
Decided to climb a tree.

From another tree.

Bored

I was bored and had some time to kill before my next assignment so I drove around in like 100 degree weather. Found some kids playing in a pool in front of their house...then found some more kids in a pool.

El Coche

A car crash that sent someone to the hospital.

Golf

Tired of the traditional boring-moment picture typical from a golf tournament so I'm not going to post them. This is what I shot and like. Neither of them ran, the boring stuff ran. Golf is fun to shoot. Starting to shoot more for myself after I get the standard shot the paper wants and it's fun stuff.

I hesitate to call this a performance

Um, yeah...if this guy is the "Idol" of America, we're pretty much doomed.

Inventor of a game

This guy invented the game that is in the box he's holding. The pieces were just little plastic circles so not anything interesting. Small store so it was tough setting up lights.

American Idol Fans

Fans waiting outside the American Idol concert in Hershey.
This lady is getting her hair sprayed gray to look like Taylor Hicks.

Crowd shot.

Did a feature on woman in middle. Huge fan and from the area. Trying to get people to sign a banner.

Camp

Kids collecting bugs at a summer playground camp.

Feature Hunt

So after a huge fiasco that I won't get into, I went to find a feature. The bottom one ran because of the face, but I like the top one.

What Beauty!

What beauty!

Priest Camp

Ran today. This is a story about these teenagers who are interested in becoming priests. They did different activities and hung out with priests from the area.

Big Post: Canoe

Today I went on a 14.5 mile canoe trip down the Susquehanna. It was so much fun and the people were awesome. Best assignment so far besides hockey. These kids are paddling from New York to the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland via the Susquehanna River. What a cool story.
